Buying through a power of attorney
You do not have to fly back to buy a unit. Someone you trust signs for you with a power of attorney (tawkeel). Here is how it usually goes.

What a power of attorney does
- It lets a person you name (the attorney) sign, pay and receive documents for you in Egypt.
- For a property, it is usually a special power of attorney that names the act, for example buying or transferring a unit. Whether a general one is accepted instead depends on the developer and the registry. To verify
- Choose someone you trust completely: they can sign in your name.
Where to make it
- At an Egyptian embassy or consulate in the country where you live, which is the most common route.
- Or before a local notary where you live, then legalised by that country’s authorities and by the Egyptian consulate. To verify

What to bring
- Your valid passport, and your Egyptian national ID if you have one.
- The attorney’s full name and national ID number.
- What the power of attorney is for: the unit, the project and the developer, from your contract or our listing.

Buying from abroad, step by step
- Check the listing: the documents badge and the unit’s history on its check page.
- Ask your questions anonymously, and book a video viewing or a recorded walkthrough.
- Make the power of attorney, and send a copy to the team so the developer can see it in advance.
- Pay only by bank transfer to the account the developer or the contract names; never to an intermediary’s personal account.
- Your attorney signs the transfer at the developer with the team.
- The contract is then in your name, and the instalments continue.
